Our Story

Our Story

In Oakville

In early 2003, God placed a calling and a dream within a small group of people to see a Harvest Bible Chapel come to the Greater Toronto Area. Through supernatural circumstances, a core group of people was formed and the momentum was building. It wasn’t long before ideas were being articulated, prayer meetings were being scheduled and plans were underway for the launch of the second Canadian Harvest Bible Chapel.

A Bible study began in the summer of 2003 in response to the demand from people who were passionate about this church plant. The first Bible study met in a local office space. When those quarters became too tight, the Bible study was moved to a church basement in Mississauga. By the grace of God this core group continued to grow and develop and attract high quality disciples of Christ. It was in the early fall of 2003 that God clearly led the leadership from HBC Oakville to be connected with the leadership from Calvary Baptist Church in Oakville. In what can only be described as miraculous, God arranged for Calvary Baptist Church to become Harvest Bible Chapel Oakville, which included giving Harvest their church building, their property and, most importantly, their people. This was an incredible process that presented many challenges. However, this kind of unprecedented event was a sign of what God was up to and what He will do to accomplish His will in building His Church!

Since 2009, the Lord has continued to build His church through Harvest Oakville by planting churches in Brampton (2009), Niagara (2011), Toronto West (2013), Brantford (2014), Kelowna (2014).

In 2017, after the dissolution of the Harvest Bible Fellowship, Harvest Oakville joined the Great Commission Collective, which is an international family of churches that exist to glorify God by planting, strengthening, and multiplying Great Commission churches around the world.

In early 2019, Harvest Bible Chapel Oakville changed their name to Hope Bible Church Oakville – a fitting name for the proclamation of the Hope that is found in Jesus Christ alone!

In Ottawa

In 2009, the Lord began to place a desire in the hearts of the Elders at Harvest Oakville to see a Harvest Bible Chapel planted in Ottawa. Over the years, the desire has continually grown to see a church planted that fulfills the Great Commission in the spirit of the Great Commandment. However, it wasn’t until 2015 that the Lord opened the door to have the next steps taken to see this church planted.

In July 2015, during a trip to Ottawa to gauge interest in pursuing the establishment of a Harvest Bible Chapel, God confirmed that He was doing a new thing in our nation’s capital. The interest, hunger and commitment to see this happen continued to grow and the first Harvest Ottawa prayer meeting was held on August 22nd, 2015 where 25 people gathered to call on the name of the Lord for a supernatural work in their city.

Since that time, God has continued to stir the hearts of many others to be a part of His work at Harvest Ottawa, which held its very first service on April 2, 2017, by the grace of God.

In 2017, after the dissolution of the Harvest Bible Fellowship, Harvest Ottawa joined the Great Commission Collective, which is an international family of churches that exist to glorify God by planting, strengthening, and multiplying Great Commission churches around the world.

In early 2019, we changed our name from Harvest Bible Chapel Ottawa to Hope Bible Church Ottawa – a fitting name for the proclamation of the Hope that is found in Jesus Christ alone!

We are very expectant that as we continue to press-in to know the Lord and seek Him first, He will establish His church exactly how He wants to. We are confident we will see even greater things than these in the days ahead, as we see Him fulfill His promise that He will do more than we could ever possibly imagine to establish His church for His glory!  The best days are yet to come and this great work has just begun.  To Him be all the glory in the church through Christ Jesus. Amen!
