Step 4: Discuss the Teaching Together

Read and Explain God’s Word

  1. Read John 20:19-22, then discuss these questions;
    1. What is the title of this passage in the Bible?
    2. Who are the main characters in this passage?
    3. Who came and stood among the disciples? (v. 19)
    4. Why did Jesus show the disciples his hands and side? (v. 20)
    5. Why were the disciples glad to see the Lord? (v. 20)
    6. What does Jesus mean when he says, “As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you”? (v.21)
    7. What did Jesus promise to give the disciples? (v.22)

Show God’s Word

  1. Jesus promised to give his disciples an amazing gift- The Holy Spirit. What does Acts 1:8 tell us about why Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit?
  1. What does the Holy Spirit do for us? Check out these verses to learn more about what the Holy Spirit does for us;
    1. Acts 1:8
    2. Galatians 5:22-23
    3. John 16:13
  1. What was the coolest gift you have ever been given? What was it? Can it give you what the Holy Spirit can give you? Why or why not?

Apply God’s Word

  1. What is something happening in your life that you need the power of the Holy Spirit to help you? Is there something hard you are going through right now? (like, starting school, having a sick grandparent, missing your friends, forgiving someone?). What is it? How do you think the Holy Spirit could help you?
  1. Take some time now to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you. Read Galatians 5:22-23. What fruit of the Spirit do you need the Holy Spirit to grow in you?
  1. One of the greatest ways we can learn more about the Holy Spirit is to read the Bible. The more we know God’s Word, the better we can teach God’s Word! Use the Grow Up In Christ planner and schedule the time you need to spend time with Jesus. Remember- as you get close to Him, He will get close to you and give you the strength you need to live faithfully! Share your plan with your family, friends, and the Hope Kids team (
  1. Take time this week to memorize Romans 8:11 to remember that the same Spirit that lived in Jesus lives in all of those who confess Him as their Lord and Saviour! “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.”
  1. The Holy Spirit was with Jesus when He came to earth and when He died on the cross for you and me. To have the help of the Holy Spirit we first have to know Jesus and believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the only Saviour. God sent His only Son, Jesus, to come to earth and die for our sins, so we can be saved and have a personal relationship with Him. To accept this gift from God, we must believe that Jesus died for us so that we can be God’s child too. We must repent of our sin (turn away from it) and believe in Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. When we do this, we put our faith in Him as our Lord and Saviour. If you want to begin a personal relationship with Him, and put your faith in Him alone, all you need to do is;

A_________ (Admit) that you have done wrong and ask God to forgive you for disobeying Him.

B_______ (Believe) that God sent Jesus to take the punishment for your sin. Trust that you are forgiven because Jesus made you right with God

C________ (Choose) to spend your whole life depending on God’s power to help you say no to sin. Rely on God to help you tell others that God is your leader and the most important person in your life.
