Step 4: Discuss the Teaching Together

  1. What is prayer? Why do we pray?
  2. When bad things happen around us or to us, what are two ways we could respond? (Get distracted and focus on them, or keep our eyes on God, have faith, and pray).
  3. In 1 Kings 17-18, we read about a drought. 450 prophets of the idol Baal prayed for the false god Baal to answer them, and he didn’t, because he couldn’t. What happened when Elijah, the only prophet of the One True God prayed to God? What happens when you pray to God if you know Jesus?
  4. Elijah had courage to pray even when he was the only one who believed in the One True God. What can you do to be more courageous and trusting in God like Elijah?
  5. Elijah was a righteous person and his prayers had great power. James 5:16 says “Therefore, confess your sins to one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” What does righteous mean?
  6. We don’t have to be special or older to pray powerful prayers, But we do need to be righteous, like the prophet Elijah. Only God can make us righteous, we can’t be righteous ourselves. God makes us righteous when we follow Jesus and become a Christian by;
    1. A_________  that you have done wrong and ask God to forgive you for disobeying Him.
    2. B_______ that God sent Jesus to take the punishment for your sin. Trust that you are forgiven because Jesus made you right with God
    3. C________ to spend your whole life depending on God’s power to help you say no to sin. Rely on God to help you tell others that God is your leader and the most important person in your life.
  7. Do you want to pray right now to ask for Jesus’ help to save you from your sin and give you righteousness with God?
