Faith Gives

Read and Explain God’s Word

  1. Spend time reading Luke 10:25-37 with your family.
      1. What is the title of this passage in the Bible?
      2. Who are the main characters?
      3. Are there any words or phrases that are repeated? What are they?
      4. What did the Lawyer ask Jesus? (v. 25)
      5. Where did Jesus tell the Lawyer to look for the answer? (v. 26)
      6. What did the Word of God say was the way to have eternal life? (v. 27-28)
      7. Did the Lawyer really want to learn and obey Jesus and God’s word? (v. 29)
      8. In Jesus’ parable (story) of the Jewish man who was beaten and robbed;
          1. What did the priest (A Jewish leader in God’s temple) do when he saw the man? (v. 31)
          2. What did the Levite (A Jewish assistant to the priest) do when he saw the man? (v.32)
          3. What did the Samaritan (A person who was not Jewish and who the Jews didn’t get along with) do when he saw the man? (vv.33-35)
          4. Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbour to the man who fell among the robbers? (vv. 36-37)

Show God’s Word

  1. Have you ever helped a neighbour (someone who lives in your neighbourhood, a friend, sibling or parent)? How did you help them?
  2. What was the difference between the response of the religious leaders and the Good Samaritan to the Jewish man in need?
  3. What did the Good Samaritan’s generous giving show others about his faith in God?
  4. What is the difference between giving and giving generously, joyfully and sacrificially in faith?

Apply God’s Word

      1. Do you think it was easy for the Good Samaritan to help the Jewish man? Why or why not?
      2. Would you rather help someone else when it is easy or when it is hard?
      3. What thing(s) would be hard for you to give to others if the Lord asked you to?
      4. How does knowing God loves you and will provide for you, help you to give generously?
  1. Does God give us what we need when we need it? Look in your Bible for verses that answer this question. (Hint: Philippians 4:19, Matthew 6:31-33)
  2. What are some ways that you can give? (e.g., time, resources, money). Is there someone you can help this week by giving generously to them? Write their name below. Take some time now to pray and ask God to help you give to the person you are thinking of.
  3. One of the greatest ways we can grow in our faith in God and to learn how to love others like He did is to spend time with God in prayer and in reading His Word. The Bible is FUEL FOR OUR FAITH! The more we know God’s Word, the better we can live out God’s Word in the wisdom and power that He gives us! Use the Grow Up In Christ planner and schedule the time you need, to spend time with Jesus. Remember- as you get close to Him, He will get close to you and give you the strength you need to live faithfully! Share your plan with your family, friends, and the Hope Kids team (hkids@hopeottawa.ca)
  4. Take time this week to memorize Hebrews 13:16 to remember to give generously to those God has put around you “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”
  5. We give generously to others because we know that God is abundantly generous; and trust that God will always provide for our needs. Our generous giving to others is a reflection of God’s generosity to us in sending His only Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. To become a follower of Jesus, you have to believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the only Saviour. God sent His only Son, Jesus, to come to earth and die for our sins, so we can be saved and have a personal relationship with Him. To accept this gift from God, we must believe that Jesus died for us so that we can be God’s child too. We first must repent of our sin (turn away from it) and believe in Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. When we do this, we put our faith in Him as our Lord and Saviour. If you want to begin a personal relationship with Him, and put your faith in Him alone, all you need to do is;
  • A_______  (Admit) that you have done wrong and ask God to forgive you for disobeying Him.
  • B_______ (Believe) that God sent Jesus to take the punishment for your sin. Trust that you are forgiven because Jesus made you right with God.
  • C______ (Choose) to spend your whole life depending on God’s power to help you say no to sin, and to worship God only. Rely on God to help you tell others that God is your leader and the most important person in your life.

Step 5: Pray the Truth Together
