“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.”-Psalm 121:1-2

Hello Hope Ottawa Family,

What a blessing it was to see the truth of these verses on display at our Church-Wide prayer night last week. It was a joy to hear fervent, expectant and faith-filled prayer as we gathered as a Church in approaching the throne of grace with confidence to seek the face of the Lord. Thank you for your faithfulness in this Church. Press on! The greatest need of our day is not found by keeping our eyes on what is happening around us, but is found by calling on the One who is over us and over all things! Ready for the greatest news? We have been given open access to God at all times and in all things through Jesus Christ our Lord! O Lord, teach us to pray, and grow us as a House of Prayer for all nations!

Church Family Update #16
Re: Covid-19
June 19, 2020

Hello Hope Ottawa Family,

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”-Hebrews 4:16

Love Ones, we are looking forward to worshipping with you all this weekend, as we unpack this truth as the climax of our House of Prayer Series. This has been an incredible series and we praise the Lord for the work that He has done and is doing in His Church through it. I am praying for each of you that as this series finishes this weekend, your prayer life would not!  I pray each of us would continue to press in to seeking the face of the Lord with a greater intimacy, desire, faith, humility and confidence than we ever have. O Lord, teach us to pray with the confidence that we have in the gospel through Jesus Christ!

Re: Covid-19

Hello Hope Ottawa Family,

“And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Peace! Be still!’ And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, ‘Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?’”-Mark 4: 39-40

In the midst of all that is happening around us, we want to continue to provide a few resources to help you think and pray through these times biblically. Our heart is to serve and to love our church family in this way. We pray that you will be helped and served by what’s provided.

UPDATE ON RE-GATHERING

Please watch the video devotional and update below from Pastor Ray regarding the recent decision for re-gathering given from the Ontario government, and how it impacts us as a church. Please continue to pray for wisdom and discernment for us as Elders, as we seek the Lord in these times. Thank you for your prayers and support.

CRUCIAL CONVERSATIONS

This interview from the Great Commission Collective was filmed in the wake of the murder of Ahmaud Arbery and prior to the death of George Floyd.

If you have not yet taken the time to view it, please do so as it is a great tool for informing, educating and instructing us to the realities of racism and inequality that many live with and the burdens they carry. Please consider what they say and pray.

Church Family Update #14
June 4, 2020

Hello Hope Ottawa Family,

“The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel: To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight, to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;” -Proverbs 1:1-3

In the midst of these difficult days and especially in light of the events of the past few weeks, we want to provide a few resources to help you think and pray through these times biblically. Our heart is to serve and to love our church family in this way. We pray that you will be helped and served by what’s provided.

Troubling Times
We’re living in very troubling times. It can be hard to know what to think, let alone know what to say and how best to say it. Please take a few minutes and watch Pastor Ray unpack Proverbs 1 in light of our current times in the video below. This is an important word for our church, please watch.

Crucial Conversations
This interview was filmed in the wake of the murder of Ahmaud Arbery and prior to the death of George Floyd.

It’s a tremendous gift to be part of the Great Commission Collective and the wide range of voices that teach, inform, and instruct us. These voices can be used to wake us up to the realities of how many live and the burdens that they are carrying.

This interview is just under an hour in total length but is worth the time to listen, consider what is said, and pray.

“Continue STEADFASTLY in prayer, being WATCHFUL in it with THANKSGIVING.”
-Colossians 4:2

Hello Hope Ottawa Family,

I love this exhortation God gives to His people through the apostle Paul here in Colossians 4.  To confront the rising heresies and opposition coming against the Church; above all else, they are exhorted to continue steadfastly in prayer, be watchful for specific needs to pray for and pray with a heart filled with thanksgiving to the Lord for what He had done and would do as His people called on Him. Today, the command of our King to us is no different! Right in the middle of this pandemic, when weariness, apathy and complacency may begin to creep into our hearts, be encouraged Loved Ones and press on in courageous, expectant and grateful prayer that God is at work, He has a plan and is unfolding it for His glory whether we see all of it or not. Stand firm in your hope today! Press in to know Him and seek His face! Stay alert and pray with great faith! He who called us is faithful and we always have reason for thanksgiving! Here is an update for all that’s happening this weekend…

Church Family Update #12
Re: Covid-19
May 21, 2020

“REJOICE in Hope, BE PATIENT in tribulation, BE CONSTANT in prayer.”
-Romans 12:12

Hello Hope Ottawa Family,

The apostle Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, penned these words above in describing the marks of what the true Christian life is to look like. It is such a timely reminder and challenge for us today in the season we find ourselves. Once again, no matter the circumstances we are facing, the true Christian, who has been called, saved, forgiven, justified and set free through salvation in Jesus Christ, is called to rejoice in the hope we have, be patient in the trials we face (including pandemics!) and be constant in prayer as they seek the face of God in all things. Are these the marks that you are bearing? I pray that individually and as a Church, we would continue to live lives in Christ’s power that bear these distinctions as Christ continues to increase in us and we continue to decrease. In Christ, we always have reason to rejoice! Here is what is happening this weekend…

Re: Covid-19

“REJOICE always, PRAY without ceasing, GIVE THANKS in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
-1 Thessalonians 5:17

Hello Hope Ottawa Family,

Rejoice, pray and give thanks in all circumstances. What a radical, life-giving, perspective altering truth this is! With so much fear, hostility, panic, confusion, frustration and tension in our society today, it can be so easy to lose sight of what we as followers of Christ are called to no matter what is happening around us. What is the will of God for us today, tomorrow and the days ahead? God makes it clear: Rejoice always. Pray always. Give thanks always. Why? Because we have a living hope! His name is Jesus and He will never leave nor forsake us! Be encouraged loved ones, if you are saved in Christ, you always have reason to rejoice and give thanks in what you are facing. Are these 3 characteristics increasingly evident in you life? If not, stop right now to rejoice, pray and give thanks for who Jesus is and what He’s done for you. You won’t regret it. Here is what is happening this weekend…

“You have said, ‘Seek my face.’ My heart says to you, ‘Your face, LORD, do I seek.’
-Psalm 27:8

Hello Hope Ottawa Family,

In the life-changing truth above, David declares the greatest purpose we have been given by God. It is far greater than a call to a job, to good health, to more possessions, even greater than a call to any ministry that we could ever be entrusted with. What is it? It is the call to intimacy, an intimacy with God through prayer that literally shapes every part of every day of our lives. It is the call of God, to seek God with our whole heart, desire and devotion. But the question we must answer everyday is, “Will I seek His face with my whole heart?” Forsaking the desires of this world and pressing in to what matters most through Jesus Christ our Lord. Loved Ones, our calling to be a House of Prayer that seeks the face of God. O Lord, give us hearts that long for you! I can’t wait for Sunday! Here is what is happening this weekend…

Pray then like this: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.’”-Matthew 6:9-10

Hello Hope Ottawa Family,

It has been an incredible start to our ‘House of Prayer’ series. We thank the Lord for His leading, instruction and the hearts that He is stirring to call on His name through the power of His word. In these uncertain times, it is such a comfort to know that in all and through all, Jesus calls us not to panic, but to pray. As we draw near to Him with pure hearts that desire Him above all else, He will draw near to us and manifest His presence. What a promise!  May our hearts sole desire in this season be to see His name hallowed in our lives, as He advances His kingdom for His glory. Lord, teach us to pray! Here is what is happening this weekend…

What an incredible reminder of the infinite worth of our God! Be encouraged today loved ones: No matter what is going on around you, no matter what you are feeling or struggling with right now, no matter what the days ahead may or may not hold, our eternal King who has eternal worth is on the throne; and is worthy to be sought! “’….for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.’”
-Isaiah 56:7b

Hello Hope Ottawa Family,

Looking around us, it is easy to be distracted from what matters most. Specifically, from what matters most to God. This challenging season that we find ourselves in is the perfect opportunity to be asking the Lord what matters most to His heart and where we may have become distracted from that as we live out each day. As we do, we can be assured that He will lead us to one place before any others: The place of seeking Him through prayer. Why? Because before anything else, that is what He calls His Church to be and the purpose for which He is building it for: To be a house of prayer for all nations. Ask yourselves this question: Are you devoted to this or distracted from it? Be encouraged Loved Ones, as we draw near to God with a pure heart, He will draw near to us and give us the precious gift of His presence, comfort and care for what we will face each day. Press into Him today! Here is what is happening this weekend…

“Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust…”-Psalm 40:4a

Hello Hope Ottawa Family,

Happy three-year anniversary! God has done and continues to do more than we can ask or imagine in and through His Church as the gospel continues to advance in this city and around the world for His glory.  We have much to celebrate and be thankful for. The truth of the verse above has been such an anchor to my heart in this season. There are so many things around us that we could be tempted to put our trust in, yet there is only One that is not only worthy of our trust, but also guarantees that His blessing will follow as we humble ourselves before Him and put our trust in Him alone. O, may we increasingly be a Church whose trust is in the Lord! Here is our latest update for what is happening in the Church and how you can stay connected…

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”-Hebrews 10: 23-25

Hello Hope Ottawa Family,

The above verses have been so precious to me this past week, as we as Elders seek the Lord as to how to love you, direct you, protect you, feed you and lead you in this season that we find ourselves in.  Even after only missing one Sunday, I am truly longing to gather together with you all again in person, to lift up the name of our most excellent Saviour and King Jesus Christ! O, what a day that will be!  In the meantime, we are called to not forsake meeting together, even now when it would be very easy to become disconnected, to forsake serving and exhorting one another in the gospel and to cease coming under God’s Word together as a Church family. Yet, as we read in this text, the command of our Saviour is to not forsake meeting together, but earnestly press in to meet together ALL THE MORE as we anticipate the Day that Christ will return! I pray we would continue to take every opportunity that the Lord has given us to do so, and go hard and expectantly in coming together to call on His Name! In faithfulness to this, I want to share the latest update of how the Lord has been leading us and what that means for how we will continue to meet together in the days ahead. Here are some exciting developments…

Sunday March 22, 2020

“…I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.’”-Isaiah 46: 9b-10

Hope Bible Church Family,

What an incredible truth we cling to in knowing that God knows the end from the beginning. He works everything out in His sovereignty and by His perfect wisdom, to accomplish His perfect purpose!  As you look around at our world today, I pray that you are strengthened in faith through this truth and remember that because of it, we have nothing to fear (Isaiah 41:10), we will have wisdom to proceed (James 1:5), and will be given the strength and faith to follow the Lord as He leads us in our mission to see the gospel proclaimed and disciples made in such a time as this (Matt. 28:18-20). Be encouraged loved one, God will accomplish His purpose for His glory and our good! In light of this truth, I wanted to give you an update as to how our Church is responding to Covid-19 pandemic….

This Sunday March 15, 2020

As Elders we have spent much time in prayer and counsel in seeking the Lord & taking the recommendations of our government and other public health officials. We have made the hard but prudent decision to cancel our Sunday service. However, we will be gathering online to Livestream one of the Worship Services from Hope Bible Church Oakville. The Livesetream details are below. Please be sure to pick a service and join with us in worship.

Ministry Adjustments

Beginning this week, there are a few adjustments we will be making in our regular ministries. They are as follows…

  • Small Groups: If you are in a Small Group, your leaders will be contacting you shortly in regards to the changes there.
  • Serving Teams: Your ministry leaders will contact you each week to confirm if we are meeting at the school or not.

Ongoing Communication

As the Lord leads, we will be updating you each week in regards to what is happening, any ministry adjustments that will be made, and how we as a Church community can stay connected.  Please ensure to check back on our website, social media pages and your email for updates as they are sent out. In general, we will try to have updates posted by Thursday of each week at the latest. Thank you for your ongoing patience and prayer in this.

Final Thoughts:
This is an important time.
It’s a time for courageous faith: May we all believe together that God has a divine and special purpose for the church in these days (Matthew 16:18, Hebrews 11:6).
It’s a time for wisdom: May we all take the necessary precautions in order to love our neighbours well (James 1:5).
It’s a time for mission: The world around us is fearful, but God’s people have nothing to fear. Why? Because we have a living hope. May we powerfully show the hope of the Gospel to people all around us (Matthew 28:18-20).
It’s a time to abide: May we walk so closely with Jesus Christ, His perfect love casts out fear. (John 15:5, 1 John 4:18).
It’s a time for prayer: Let’s pray for courageous faith, wisdom, urgency for the mission, and for a closeness to Christ through His Word & prayer…God will do it! (1 John 5:14)

You are loved so much,
Pastor Ray (On behalf of the Elders)

MARCH 12, 2020

Hope Ottawa Church Family,
Every Sunday, I’m reminded again how much of a great privilege we have to come and lift high the name of Jesus together. Our times of response to the Lord and His Word are filled with joy and expectation. I also love how our kids are being discipled each week.

As we prepare for services this Sunday, I know that many of you are considering the news around the world regarding the COVID-19 virus.

With information from government websites and Ottawa Public Health in mind, we want you to know of some changes you should expect as you come to church, and to also let you know of some of the precautions we regularly take to keep you and your family safe and healthy when you come to worship.

First, let me share with you some of the regular precautions we take at Hope:

  • Our Hope Kids toys and resources are regularly and systematically cleaned and disinfected.
  • Signage in all washrooms promoting handwashing.
  • Regular cleaning of facility by the school custodial staff.

On top of these regular precautions, we will take a few extra steps of care:

  • Connection Cards: We will not be passing around the Connection Cards, but you will still have an opportunity at the Welcome Desk to introduce and register any guests that may visit with you.
  • Giving: There will also be opportunities for you to give your regular tithe or offering by placing that in the offering bags at the back of the gym at the Connections Desk after the service. The Ushers will be holding the offering bags where you can place your offerings in. You may also give online at our website.
  • Hand Shakes: We’re going to forego our normal practice of shaking hands as we greet each other. We want to be friendly so we’ll still greet you with a smile and an encouraging word as you come to worship, and we’ll probably wave or give a good ol’ head nod but we’ll follow the direction of our health officials to take this necessary precaution.
  • In-Service Greeting: We will not be having a moment in the worship service where we greet each other.

We want to provide a clean, healthy, and safe environment where you and your family can come and worship the Lord at Hope Bible Church.

Along with these precautions, here are a few other precautions that you can take to help us. You should avoid attending church activities including Sunday worship or Hope Kids if:

  • You have had flu-like symptoms in the past 7 days or have been in close contact with someone with these types of symptoms: fever, cough, vomiting or shortness of breath.
  • You have traveled from an area in the past 7-14 days with confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus or if you suspect you may have been exposed to it in some way.

We understand the need to give attention to all of these details in order to be wise stewards of our health and the safety of others in our church who are most at risk as we come to worship together. Please be praying now for Sunday and for all those who are going to worship in churches all around our community and world. Let’s not miss the opportunity to worship together and get in God’s Word for His glory!
