The Lord led our family to Hope Bible Church Oakville almost five years ago. Michelle and I sensed immediately that the Lord was at work in the church, and soon began to see the Lord changing us too! The presence of the Lord was palpable, and there was a genuine passion for lifting high the name of Jesus and proclaiming His Word! Eventually we found ourselves serving in various capacities and began hosting a small group in our home.

The Lord has used the ministry of Hope Oakville in my life in a very special way to inspire a new passion for prayer, a deeper love for His Word, and greater intimacy with Him. I am a better man, husband, father, relative, friend, employee, and neighbour as a result of what the Lord is doing in my life – all glory to Him! Our three children James (9), Aaron (7), and Rachel (5) have also been so blessed to be a part of Hope Kids.

Christ revealed himself to me and I submitted my life to him at the age of 10. I grew up in a Christ-centred home, and it was then that I realized my need for a Saviour. While the Lord sustained me during my high school years, it was in university that my faith was reignited and personalized at an even deeper level. Today, my relationship with Jesus is growing and vibrant. Ironically, the more I see Him for who He is, the more I see my own weakness and shortcomings, 2 Corinthians 3:18.

Inasmuch as I feel completely inadequate for the task, I have a strong sense that the Lord is leading me along this path to serve as an elder. Paradoxically, I am filled with the sober reality of what the Lord is calling me to, and at the same time, I have such an excitement about what the Lord has for us next. There’s no greater joy than to follow the Lord and to dedicate the gifts He has given to His service! He has given me a passion for His church and I know that He will equip as I follow His leading.

This past year was a real gift from the Lord as I sat with the elders; never before have I seen such unswerving commitment to humility, love, unity, and seeking the Lord for direction. It has been an honour to sit under their leadership, and as the Lord leads, it will be a privilege to serve Hope Oakville with them. In His service, and for His glory.
